Rickmansworth & District Art Society Exhibition

Jackie O’Keeffe is a contemporary intuitive artist based in Chorleywood. She has been an addicted doodler for as long as she can remember drawing anything and everything. Recently she has brought her love of drawing, painting and doodling together to make unique colourful fun art.

This group exhibition was brought to you by local artist Victoria Culf and fellow members of South-West Herts Visual Arts group: Barbara Burrows, Eleanor Sidaway, Jackie O’Keeffe, Jackie Uphill and Sarah How.

It featured a collection of works made in response to the changing climate of politics, health and economics as an antidote to media diatribe.

After studying for an MA in Textile Design from the National Institute of Design in India, she established her own textile production business Kalarshi, creating bespoke art pieces for a range of clients as well as hosting independent exhibitions.

Student Photography Exhibition
“That’s Old!” People, places and objects in Three Rivers

Coordinated by Three Rivers Museum, this exhibition displays the talents of local children and young people, who over the summer holidays were asked to send in photographs of their local area.
 
Judges, including an award winning photographer, found it stimulating to see how people responded to the theme “That’s Old!” They enjoyed seeing local history through the students’ lenses and their imaginations.

Nan Millette, born and educated in Canada, has been a fibre artist since 2012 and specialises in the process of rug hooking.

As part of the annual Herts Visual Arts Open Studios programme, Artistsmeet are supporting as a host venue and are delighted to display the work of Hertfordshire based artist, Gaye Daniels.

Her work is mostly abstract, contemporary and impressionist inspired, created in acrylic paint on canvas, board, wood and paper. Although her current focus is painting, Gaye also sculpts soft stone and clay and create collages from nature and found objects.

Based in North London, Alexander creates paintings that depict abstract landscapes, using oils and a palette knife on canvas as his medium. 

He is inspired by the colour and light found in everyday travels, his main influence coming from watching the ever changing sky and imagining the possibility of colour to be used within his artwork. The change of light which takes place in a very short period of time and the early rises of colour within the day, are an exciting source of inspiration and are reflected in his paintings.

Intuitive and experimental, Anna’s thoughts and emotions are reflected in her paintings and collages, telling the story of her journey from a lost soul towards a whole and fulfilled being. 

She uses acrylic, decoupage, collage, gilding and upcycling to express and reflect emotions and mood. Anna is a keen recycler, environmental champion and honoured winner of Dacorum’s individual Clean, Safe and Green Community award, in recognition of her work locally.

Finding Chapters

Finding chapters brings together two Hertfordshire artists, Anji Archer and Jo Howe, in an exploration of human connection. 

Both artists have similar approaches to their practice, with auto responsive and undefined intention that leads to emotive and expressive mark making and thought provoking narratives. 

For the first time, these artists have come together to show their work, exploring the similarities and differences this work process produces. As part of this exhibition, Jo and Anji have created a collaborative artwork utilising Instagram as a point of contact, sharing and publishing.

The Community Arts programme within the Council’s Leisure Team enables people of all ages from across the district to take part in creative projects and events throughout the year. 

This includes exhibitions and practical workshops at Artistsmeet, events and activities for families and schools, regular textiles classes, projects which celebrate heritage and those for targeted groups within the community. A recent addition to our offer is Arts on Prescription, which are short-term arts based projects to support people’s mental health and wellbeing. Also, for those who enjoy the great outdoors, we offer photography walks in our beautiful green spaces! 

The outcomes of our projects or activities can range from the perfect photograph or a colourful group mural, to a personal collaged diary themed around memory. The artworks reflect the true talents of people who have taken part and the skills that they have learned in the process!

‘I am not who you think I am’ launched initially on World Sight day at Moorfields Eye Hospital and since then has opened up the art ‘viewing’ experience for adults, children and people who are visually impaired. The viewer can see and feel the face of the portrait, whilst listening to the recording of them and finding out if their initial thoughts were correct or not.

Heather is a self-taught artist and developed this new style of painting 14 years ago. Since then she has had
commissions from Touch Tours Department of the Tate Modern, The Wordsworth Museum and The Mary Rose Museum.
